Beijing :The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City, also known as the Imperial Palace, is located in downtown Beijing. It was the residence of the emperors of China between 1420 and 1912.

Power center of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), she was called "Forbidden City" because only authorized persons can enter to get an audience with the Emperor. These are 24 emperors who succeeded in the palace where they could go out twice a year.


The magnificent architecture of this monumental and richness of the exhibits in the buildings of the Forbidden City are one of the most visited sites in Beijing, attracting millions of tourists worldwide.

The Palace of rectangular shape, covers an area of 720,000 sqm. There are more than 9,000 pieces.

The city is surrounded by a wall 10 meters high protected by a moat 52 meters wide.

Each building in the Forbidden City was built for a specific function. There are two specific parts: The Courtyard and yard.

The most impressive buildings are the Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihe Dian) or Golden Throne Room where important ceremonies were celebrated, the Hall of Central Harmony (Zhonghe Dian) and the Hall of Preserved Harmony (Baohe Dian).

The Forbidden City is ranked among the monuments listed in the Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
